A Woman's Scorn
When you left a piece of me died that day
My entire universe had gone astray
No more pennies in heaven left to pay
Had to get on my knees to pray,
Reaching into my chest tearing out my heart
What happens when man and woman part
I should have known right from the start
Sorrow and agony off the charts,
You never were much on loyalty or respect
Somehow though I was still there to protect
But you had this emotional defect
I should have been able to detect,
Things just rolled along
Like a scattered and fractured song
I thought our love was strong
But my Dear I was merely wrong,
Often I’d thought if life was worth living
After all I had been giving
Somehow fate had cut that string
You and your ill-fated fling,
They say all is fair in love and war
Some say only vengeance settles the score
Others ask, “What is life for?”
While others can’t pick themselves up off the floor
Oh the demons I have adored
Thought I was a real man when I scored
I asked her why her dress was torn
Just another victim of a woman’s scorn.
