Word has been circulating widely online about a recently introduced
bill that would create a 1% tax on EVERY transaction you do at your
bank. The tax collected would go to pay down the National Debt.
I don't know about you, but I'm fed up with having to pay for
Washington's reckless spending and constant bailouts because of the
"limitless" supply of money pulled from Tax Payer pockets. The
Federal Reserve makes this possible by adding to the National
Debt... then they turn around and ask us to foot the bill.
SORRY, guys not this time... you're not getting away with this
bill, you're getting CUT OFF.
The bill is deceptively called the "Debt Free America Act" H.R. 4646
It should be called "Skimming the Wealth of America Act."
This bill creates a 1% tax on all transactions at any financial
institution (I. e. Banks, Credit Unions, etc.) ANY deposit you
make, or move around within your account, (I. e. transfer to, will
have a 1% tax charged). If your pay check or your social Security
or whatever is direct deposit, 1% tax charged. If you hand carry a
check in to deposit, 1% tax charged, If you take cash in to
deposit, 1% tax charged.

Thank you for contacting me about a proposed 1% tax on financial transactions.
The new 1% tax proposal you mention was introduced by Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) on February 23, 2010. His bill, H.R. 4646, would place this tax on any financial transaction conducted in the United States. While it doesn't appear that this bill will come before the full House for a vote, know that I will oppose it if it does.
I oppose raising taxes on hardworking Americans. As a former small business owner with my wife for nearly 22 years, I know how damaging tax increases are to small businesses and families. With proposals like this one, it's no wonder so many Americans are frustrated.
Thank you, again, for emailing me.
It's an honor to represent you in the U.S. Congress.
