Actor and producer Kirk Cameron celebrated on Monday when two public libraries in Scarsdale, New York, and Indianapolis, Indiana agreed to host a story hour for the reading of his new children’s book “As You Grow.”
The book delivers a Christian, faith-based message to kids which focuses on positive attributes like kindness, patience, compassion, and other qualities that are emphasized in the Bible.
Cameron focused on the two libraries given that they have hosted drag queen story hours in June as well as other programs meant to promote diversity in the community, according to Fox News.
When Cameron originally reached out to the libraries, however, they refused to allow him to host a story hour with both libraries saying they were not interested. In response, the actor threatened legal action which led to them giving in.
“They caved,” said Cameron’s publisher to Fox News Digital. “I’m happy that the two libraries changed their decision and will allow my voice to be heard and my book to be read,” Cameron said about the victory, per The Daily Wire.

“I hope they realized that their position of denying me a story hour reading was not only unfair and illegal, but that we would all be better off if we listened to each other’s perspectives,” the actor continued, adding that he hopes “that this victory acts as a source of courage for Christians and conservatives across the country to be brave and not back down, making sure that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the darkness.”
