Adults over 60 should get shingles vaccine, CDC recommends

Nearly one out of three people in the U.S. will develop shingles, a painful and potentially serious condition also known as herpes zoster, the CDC says. Yet only 10% of those 60 and older — the group most affected by the virus — got the vaccine (Zostavax) in 2009.
A Kaiser Permanente study of 300,000 patients, reported in today's Journal of the American Medical Associationand co-authored by the CDC, shows the vaccine reduces the risk of developing shingles — which affects more than a million people a year — by 55%.

"We suggest clinicians follow the CDC's recommendation to talk to their patients about the vaccine," says study's co-author Hung Fu Tseng, a Kaiser Permanente research scientist.
The CDC made the same recommendation after a smaller trial study in 2006, but it appears few people got the word. Not all insurance or Medicare plans cover the $150-$300 cost, which perhaps may be the reason so few get it, says the CDC in another report due out next month. And not all doctors keep the vaccine on hand because it has to be frozen until minutes before it's adminstered.
Adults who had chickenpox as a child are at risk for shingles, which is caused by the same virus. Shingles start as a numbness, tingling or itching. The rash eventually blisters and can sometimes lead to a painful condition known as post-herpetic neuralgia. In severe cases, the virus can also affect the eyes and cause blindness.
Spreading the word to the 77 million baby boomers— the first of whom will turn 65 this year — is crucial, says Juanita Watts, a Kaiser Permanente family care physician near San Diego.

I can just imagine what true unbiased statistics would actually, probably much like the uh lvl 6 h1n1 worldwide pandemic that was to kill so many of us last year, OOPS, another sick scare tactic disproved by reality. The CDC can't even prove vaccines ever truly work, but they can prove millions who get them have reactions, side effects, lowered immune systems, death....
Brainwashing is really disgusting and sad to watch once you finally wake up and see it in action all around you 24-7 and almost no one you know or talk to will believe you, and the few who seem to accept the facts presented as being being different from the truth, well they that do are so pacified they won't take the threats seriously.
FEMA gave a general recommendation last month in a email to "be resolved" to prepare in 2011 for a disaster/terrorist scenario resulting a possible interruption in basic services for a few days to ?? 6 months ?, I took the CERT class last month, the fire department guys doing it were saying the same thing, not an if but when, and the ones I talked to, said personally, they don't do the flu shots either. I turned down an invitation from the Medical Reserve Corps to come help give shots in my neighborhood in October, but I see signs all over my area offering flu & shingles shots.
Rather ironic working for an organization you can't trust, that you know is planning your enentual demise, and not being willing to take what they expect you to help hand out to all your other neighbors, cause' you know it's bull....
Al I can say is thank God for waking up as many as he is to help fight all this insanity.
