An Unpleasant Stay
There was a time
When there was no scourge upon my land
Nor the blood of innocents on anyone’s hands
Now the people may be called upon to take a stand,
There was a time
When idiocy wasn’t so sublime
When I could hear the sweetness of a wind chime
When law and order assailed crime,
I was a young man fighting for a place in life
Brave and strong enough to engage in the strife
When I had the love of a wife,
Today we are all not far from the assassin’s knife,
There was a time when nothing seemed to fade away
And I didn’t have a single hair that was gray
I thought I could handle anything come what may
Now it seems fate has come for an unpleasant stay,
Thought that I owned father time
That the arms on the clock were mine
Now my thoughts and wishes aren’t worth a dime
Waiting for the next super nova to shine,
Never realized I was running out of opportunities
Running out of empathetic entities
Short of resonating frequencies
Perhaps, I’m just the wrong species,
The invisible world’s touch
I need it ever so much
I can only speculate as such
There was a time I didn’t need a crutch.
