Another Introspective Day
A sentimental tear for life gone by
Where ever did life and family fly
A trace of dreams in the sky
And still I'm asking why,
Hurt people do hurt things
Breaking hearts and having flings
Not realizing as their epitaph sings
All the changes a struggling life brings,
Some things I wished for you
If only you'd been true
I feel like slipping away
Just another introspective day,
All these games we play
Someday there'll be a price to pay
All those foolish things you say
Sometimes I actually wish you stayed,
Leaves dying in the heat
Word's out on the street
Your life's incomplete
You were way too indiscreet,
I got a call from God this afternoon
There'll be another blood moon
Like hypothermia in a monsoon
He may be dead but he could sing a tune,
Some things I wished for you
If only you'd been true
I feel like slipping away
Just another introspective day,
This slide guitar you're my only friend
Melancholy a tragedy around the next bend
Will they ever receive these thoughts that I send?
Fools and ideologies they can't defend,
All she wanted was a ride in the hay
No complexities she wanted to convey
Feelings override concepts today
No pond where reflections can stay,
You're dreaming but you're too far away
Just a mirage made out of clay
All the absurdity come what may
Tyranny closes in as the fools play,
Some things I wished for you
If only you'd been true
I feel like slipping away
Just another introspective day.
