As we have found when appraising the events here on earth the old saying, “Reality can be more bizarre than fiction,” seems to be a time tested truth. It seems that more and more, not only are we witnessing strange animal behavior but strange animals themselves. It has often been said that we know more about the surface of the moon than we know about our deep dark oceans and what may live within them.

'Living fossil' coelacanth genome sequenced

In 1938, a coelacanth was caught off the coast of India by a fisherman. An animal thought to have been extinct for 65 million years is found alive and well and since then several more have been discovered. Recently marine scientists in a submersible were stunned to have caught sight of what appeared to be a giant shark possibly 60 feet in length: the Megaladon, a gigantic prehistoric shark! Once again, thought to be extinct. Yet, for decades mariners, fishermen, and others have spotted what appears to be gigantic fish that science refuses to acknowledge.

Image result for giant squid

How did we find out that there are gigantic squid? By finding the scars upon blue whales who are known to have life and death struggles with large squid, the wounds left by the squid could be scaled to the size of the animal that had delivered the bite. Yet, only the rotted remains of squid washed ashore from time to time or an occasional trawler would pull a squid carcass from the ocean. However, recently two scientists exploring the depths in a submersible were stunned to see a huge eyeball staring at them through a porthole. It belonged to a gigantic squid that had become curious over their vessel. Luckily, for them the creature lost interest and swam away. For centuries there were rumors among sailors and sailing ship crews of the Kraken, a giant octopus, or sea monster capable of sinking a ship and killing the crew. These reports were considered to be folklore, but now the evidence seems overwhelming.

Image result for nessie

A female marine biologist studying the waters of Loch Ness may have made a discovery that proves the existence of “Nessie”. Although there have been arrays of ships carrying sonar equipment scanning the bottom of the Loch the width of the entire channel. They claimed they could not find evidence of a large creature like a Plesiosaur as had been described by many witnesses. Yet, they did not take into account the vast number of grottos or underwater caves that exist off the descending shoreline into the depths. These grottos serve as an asylum for sea creatures giving birth, for fish that can rest without being wary of predators, and of a large marine animal that would be seeking a nesting habitat! Most grottos have air pockets so that where there’s a water level and then a breathable environment to go with it like a stalactite limestone cave.

Academic Departments

In a documentary the American marine biologist explains that the echo location reading indicated she was picking up the existence of a creature much like a whale. In all likelihood a Plesiosaur would have used echolocation or bio-sonar just as modern day dolphins and Orca do. That does not mean that the identity of Nessie can be only that of a thought to be extinct dinosaur. Some scientists think the Loch Ness monster could be a giant undiscovered eel as many species of eel exist throughout the cold fresh waters of Europe. Another marine biologist of Scottish descent found sonar readings that suggested that several large fish or unknown sea creatures capable of 17 miles per hour and dives of 450 feet per minute had left readings on his sonar screen. What he was getting electronic signatures from is still unknown. As far back as 1966 a British bomber pilot taking surveillance photos captured an unknown object on the surface of Loch Ness estimated at 99 feet in length. It seems there is just no conclusive evidence that proclaims a verdict of a final yes or no on the existence of some unknown species of a large marine creature that has eluded man for decades there in the dark depths of Loch Ness.

Image result for Biblical Leviathan

Along the shores of Iceland a marine biologist picked up ultra-low frequency sounds that would normally have been given off by a huge whale such as Blue Whale of Humpback. The frequency itself provides an indication of size and if the ultra-low signal given off by this creature was from an actual animal it would have been a unknown species larger than the Blue Whale. In the Bible there is the story of a gigantic creature that lives in the sea that is not only enormous but invincible like Godzilla. In Biblical text is appears as “Leviathan”. Is this simply the ancient Christian version of the “Kraken”? The recorded evidence has been disputed by one scientist saying it was the sound created by ice cleaving from the land and falling into the ocean, but if that were true why haven’t their been routine echo soundings of this event before since the calving of icebergs is a common occurrence?

In a Reader's Digest article in 1999 was the account of sea monster sightings reported off the coast of Washington State as well as the St. Lawrence seaway. Even in Canada is the legacy of "Champ" a Loch Ness-like monster seen by many in Lake Champlain. Has science completely missed the discovery or explanation of these mythical creatures? It would seem so. Just as has been said of UFO's "Seeing is believing."
