A Moon to Acquire

I can hear the sound of my breathing in the darkness

In the scheme of things who could care less?

Do you wonder if your life has been a grim game of chess?

Here in these hours hard to fight off the hopelessness,

In the final analysis how will this all play out?

Remembering the expression on her face when she would pout

She’s long gone now, no reason to cry or shout

How does a man survive an emotional drought?

What is the value of character anymore?

When it’s 4 AM and you’re glued to the floor

Then you begin to wonder what is our true purpose for?

Find my consciousness drifting off shore,

Reflecting on all the losses and gains

Understand that nothing remains unchanged

When temptation comes again will I be able to refrain?

It’s much too painful to be forced to abstain,

I know I’ve been so easily misunderstood

But, did I do all that I possibly could?

Life does not reciprocate once you’ve done all you should

It’s a game of chance no matter what you’ve withstood,

The goddess of love must have a bone to pick with me

That prize of existence so easily eluding me

It’s human nature to try and be free

And they’ll tell you there are more fish in the sea,

The silence and the darkness together they conspire

Being alone doesn’t quell my desire

Nor does it consign me to the funeral pyre

Like a solitary planet I look for a moon to acquire.
