Asleep at the Wheel

You and I caught in this modern day menagerie

Where we marvel at the fake imagery

From sea to shining sea

Still standing right where she left me,

Somewhere there’s a shiny key

A key to the answers for all this insanity

To be God and to listen to all the desperate pleas

The ignorant fools grow and multiply like fleas,

Life didn’t go quite as you planned

The lies, the betrayal, more than you could stand

But somehow anyway you ended up with blood on your hands

We all stand convicted in this unholy land,

 It seems you’ve spent your entire life trying to find meaning

Your fellow countrymen thoughtlessly leftist leaning

You’re out of body experience perched upon the ceiling

From the delirium of confusion there is no healing,

I always wondered just what was the matter

No matter how many times I climbed Jacob’s ladder

Conversing profusely with the mad hatter

But upon my roof there never was a Christmas Eve clatter,

Just one woman who could make a promises she could keep

Give me a ticket for a vacation from all the sheep

As you sow so shall ye reap

It all depends on what kind of company you keep,

The captain is definitely asleep at the wheel

A society of maniacs who can’t even feel

They’re hiding a terrible truth they’ll never reveal
