Here is what the British national government can do, and will do [see below].
The Canadian national government can do the same under the BC HST.
- 20% VAT ‘looming’ as UK ministers face mounting debt crisis
- A hike in VAT is ‘inevitable’ after the election as the government grapples with a mounting debt crisis, experts warned yesterday.
- The Treasury will have to lift the tax from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent to raise an extra £12 billion of revenue a year, according to analysts at consultancy Oxford Economics.
To start with, BC HST will tax many new items. Even worse than that, BC HST will hand Ottawa the power to decide on tax increases down the road. Three national governments in Europe have raised the tax to 23%. Could Ottawa go that far ? What is to stop them ?
Enough signatures on the Initiative petition will force a referendum.
Remember the Charlottetown Accord referendum. Over 80% of British Columbians defeated that.
First. Sign the Initiative petition in March 2010.
Second. Get your neighbor to sign, too.
Third. Be an official collector of signatures - collect 100 signatures.
Every small business in town should have a petition at their front desk. Small business will suffer when customers have less money to spend.
Don’t whine - take action. Stop Campbell.
