Beg, Steal, and Borrow
You never seemed very sentimental
Not really even that gentle
In all that we consider eventful
Perhaps if you’re not fighting it’s too dull,
Was taking everything from me
Just your claim to liberty?
And that’s as far as you can see
Funny how painful it all can be,
Is it that the world revolves around you?
And every dog will have his due
Did you ever bother to analyze your views?
Did you ever try standing in my shoes?
Admittedly the world is tough and lonely
It was okay if you thought you owned me
Just as long as I was your only
I thought we were meant to be,
Despite the selflessness and sorrow
You always lived for tomorrow
You’d even beg and steal and borrow
When it came to lies you were a pro,
I’m no longer bitter or hopeless
But, I’m not at liberty to guess
I often find myself speechless
When I think of the way you dressed,
I must say I’m cursed with a memory
Should I run or should I flee
Escapism was never my cup of tea
Maybe God is just laughing at me.
Somewhere is a time machine I’ll buy
That takes me to a time that has no lies
Where even angels have no reason to sigh
And married couples won’t have to cry.
