Under the Gun
She always had that faraway look in her eyes
I often wondered if it was a disguise
Perhaps a way to silence her cries
So many moods we tend to deny,
Even though she was from across the sea
Some things in fate are meant to be
But no one else can set you free
Not all endings come out so merry,
Does it matter that she suffered for her decree?
She needed attention to such a degree
Somehow convinced she was never worthy
She took out all her frustration on me,
As this planet orbits around the sun
There’ll be those obsessed with only fun
While others will somehow be on the run
You were always convinced you were under the gun,
Why should I care why don’t I roam?
There’s no longer any place I can call home
Gentle waves rolling in with foam
Unlike your ice cold heart of stone,
What happened to this life I called my own?
Come on God throw this dog a bone
Remembering when I was in the zone
Kneeling at the grave of the known,
Every seagull has to fly
Something a vengeful spirit can’t deny
More from my hands than you can pry
In the final days you sucked me dry.
