Black Sun

Drain all the colors from my sight
Where is the love that accompanied me through the night?
The ghost of my queen escapes me at dawn's early light
A phantom of love I would surely invite,

Walking out into a new day and a black sun
A different world shared by everyone
The children are laughing and having fun
Then there are the others who have come undone,

Somewhere a king is alone and sad
Somewhere is the estranged queen he never really had
Somewhere are those who have been driven mad
Somewhere fools are convinced morality is just a fad,

Living in a dream that just won't go away
Begging the wrong one to stay
Wrestling with a life that's gone astray
Is existence merely a one act play?

I used to think I was a brilliant young man
But life got in the way and spoiled the plan
It rained on my parade and the colors ran
Now the fighter jet's radar is on active scan,

I tried building castles on false promises and dreams
Then came the betrayal and everything in between
The world was really never what it seems
Somehow it all fell short of peaches and cream,

These words I write seem ragged and sad
Coming to grips with the truth isn't all that bad
Being thankful for the gift of love I had
The realization that nothing in this world is iron clad,

The sunset comes down at the end of the day

Leaving many of us to hope and pray

Deep in my heart I try to convey

Is it that the debt I owe I'll never be able to repay?
