Boy, 17, smiles and laughs as police arrest him for 'beating his mother to death with the butt of a shotgun'

A 17-year-old boy was reported smiling and laughing as police arrested him on charges of beating his adoptive mother to death with the but off a shotgun.

Henry 'Hank' Laird had a long history of brutally attacking his mother Linda Laird, 56. The abuse culminated on Tuesday when he mercilessly bludgeoned her to death with 20 strikes to her head and neck at their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police say. 

Officers also arrested 19-year-old Josiah Sklar, Hank Laird's friend who told police that he saw the attack, but did nothing to call for help or stop it.

Sklar told detectives that he gave the dying woman a pillow and then went into a different room and went to sleep. 

Linda Laird was found dead at the bottom of her staircase on Tuesday morning. Sklar and Laird has fled the house and were nowhere to be found.

He was later arrested at his grandmother's home. Officers said he was 'smiling and laughing,' as they handcuffed him after a standoff that lasted several hours, KRMG-FM news radio reported.
