Christmas Was Delightful
Christmas, a time we should enjoy without a care
But, with an unfaithful spouse time to beware
You may never again feel like you can share
The experience of holiday despair,
The snow settles silently on the slopes outside
Tears slide down the cheek because they lied
Suddenly the world changed over your foolish pride
All avenues of joy have now been denied,
You anchored yourself around just one
Everything you both shared was not always fun
A relationship you felt was homespun
Now my friend you are on the run,
The heart of a child so innocent and pure
Gifts under an evergreen tree memories endure
As we get older the happy days are fewer
Looking forward to chicken on a skewer,
Still the snow glides down from the heavens
I told the kids, "Don't you get up before seven."
All the ornaments I counted there's only eleven
That little Baby toddler his name is Kevin,
Fleeting memories of a time when life was full
Christmas was delightful anything but dull
But for a series of events that entered my skull
Wishing I could fly away like a seagull,
It's Christmas everybody time to rejoice
Wouldn't we be happy given the choice?
Being lonely and forgotten it weakens the voice
No Christmas cards my eyes are getting moist,
Reflecting on the silence of Christmas eve
Like a fool I had no idea she would leave
The thread of the unexpected in life we weave
For all our lost ones on Christmas we grieve.
