Breed-Specific Legislation (BSL) is the term for laws which discriminate against certain breeds by banning or regulating laws in hope of reducing the amount of dog attacks in an area. Dog attacks are a serious problem in some communities across the country, but addressing potentially dangerous dogs can be confusing to most as they confuse putting the blame on the owner or the breed. Those situations have lead to the creation of Breed-Specific Legislation. Over 700 cities in the US still have BSL discriminating against breeds such as Pit-Bulls, certain Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Dobermans or even German Shepherds.
There is no evidence showing that these laws are effective by making communities safer, however they do make the dogs suffer. Many owners of breeds being discriminated against usually tend to keep the dog low-key by avoiding attention and restraining the dog from socializing and going outside frequently. They often avoid the vet which leads to more mental and physical health problems of the dog. Other negative aspects of these laws include how it poorly affects the owners, who have responsibly trained their pets, and the public, by moving the focus towards discrimination laws and away from the effective enforcement of laws that have better chances of making communities safer.
Safer and more helpful alternatives for BSL would be breed-neutral laws such as: Enhanced enforcement of dog license laws, laws that hold dog owners civilly/criminally liable for unjustified injuries or damage caused by their dogs, laws that prohibit chaining and unreasonable confinement, along with enhanced enforcement of animal cruelty and animal fighting laws. These alternatives would all be less costly and easier to enforce according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Please sign this petition to help me with my goal of changing Breed-Specific Legislation laws permanently.
Delta not doing so will result in great detriment to those that need their service dogs in-flight with them, as well as the court systems becoming cluttered with cases against the airline for illegally disallowing Pit Bull service dogs on board.
FUCK DELTA Airlines!!

Pit Bulls are really demonized because of their strength. Any dog can be trained to be vicious.
Reminds me of getting homeowner's insurance and the agent said there might be a problem because of my Malamute. I literally laughed out loud because I thought they were kidding. While Malamutes have been known to attack (like every breed of dog), it is very rare. But they are large and look kinda like a wolf, so they go to the "scary" category. (Most importantly, the insurance company gets to charge more money.)
neighbor had a poodle when I was a young'n.....woulda ripped ya throat out if ya got close enough
A majority of the states in the US have some form of BSL and Pit Bulls are always on the list, so I'm not surprised. I think it's part of the "it looks scary" campaign. (Like guns.)
