A doctor’s son was found dead by his mother with 62 separate injuries after he died from a violent reaction to ecstasy-type drug Dr Death.
Gym instructor Travis Barber, 19, took the super-strength drug but descended into a state of 'hallucination, delusion and agitation'.
He ripped down curtains from a window and turned a dining room table on its side before collapsing on his back with his fists and teeth clenched.
He was found dead by his mother after she returned from a weekend away in London. It is believed he may have been dead for 24 hours.
Police initially feared Travis had been murdered after his body was found with multiple bruises and abrasions in the upturned family home.
But tests revealed he had taken the biggest ever dose of the pink heart shaped PMA tablet, which has claimed nine other lives across the North of England since the start of the year, including a 16-year-old girl.
Two bags including pink powder and two part tablets were later found in the boot of Travis’ car in a sports bag.
Today Dr Louise Barber, 37, from Salford, and Greater Manchester Police issued a warning to other youngsters who take the drug about the dangers of playing 'Russian Roulette with their lives'.
'It’s like playing Russian Roulette with your life, you just don’t know what is in the drugs.
'Be aware that this is happening to people, you think when you are young it will never happen to you but it does.'
In a moving tribute to her son, she added: 'Travis was so kind and considerate and just a lovely, beautiful lad in every way.
'He loved his personal training and keeping fit. Travis loved music and playing the guitar and he was a wonderful son who was very much loved by his family, who are all devastated by his death.'
The hearing in Bolton was told Travis - described as a 'very healthy man who liked life and was happy' - had trained as a lifeguard before accepting a job as a fitness trainer at Pure Gym in Stockport.
But he had taken steroids to bulk up his muscles and confessed to his mother he had been experimenting with other drugs including cannabis and amphetamines and ecstasy.
Dr Barber told the inquest: 'He told me that he had tried it on three occasions. He didn’t say that he was taking them regularly, just that he had experimented.
'We talked about the things that he had tried and experimented with.
'I asked him to promise me that he would not take ecstasy again. He did say he wouldn’t.'
Tragedy struck in February this year after Dr Barber left for a weekend in the capital. When she last spoke to Travis he said he was taking part in a training session at the gym.
