Drifting Away

Listen carefully and pay attention in your town

If you pause you might hear it as you look around

The sound of tears rolling down

The face of a clown,

Be sure to put on your makeup as you enter

The world stage because you’re no inventor

You will be called out front and center

Being homeless instead of being a renter,

It seems that this dream world existence

Is a challenge to your resistance

Too many are below the level of subsistence

All because of the tyrannical insistence,

Trying to find some illusion that fits like a glove

Some reasonable facsimile of love

Then again that’s not what the world is made of

You just have to get used to the push and shove,

Door gunner lying in his own blood on the floor of a Huey

A Grizzly bear finds human flesh a bit chewy

That realization really threw me

The world at times can certainly seem gloomy,

Some will try to find the origins of the universe

For some their fate can end up much worse

The words of the fools are often terse

Some are convinced of King Tut’s curse,

Watching your love drifting away into the sunset

Her slender figure now a dark ominous silhouette

You wonder if your actions dictate a pattern of regret

Remember you’re human with a self-destructive mindset.
