A woman living alone near Alexandria, Louisiana is cornered in her cabin by a large rabid raccoon. A nearby elderly woman finds a black bear on her door step. She tries to chase the bear away using a broom to strike the animal. She is mauled to death. A hunter out in the swampy wilderness south of the area in a Louisiana stretch of woods sees what he can’t believe! The largest feral hog that perhaps ever existed. The animal is as large as a cattle with huge tusks. He takes careful aim with his high powered hinting rifle and nails the beast. The incident goes viral on the internet as “Hogzilla”. The animal weighs a thousand pounds. Feral hogs have become a big problem in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana rooting deep into the soil and destroying crops and have been known to attack people when in packs. One hunter claims that after shooting one feral hog among a number of others they all rushed him! He was forced to climb a tree to save his own life.
Even experts become prey
In Kingston, Oklahoma near Lake Texoma a veteran game warden of 20 years has his career quickly ended when a feral hog attacks and gores him. Armed with a 9 millimeter pistol he fires at the head of the animal repeatedly but at close range the velocity of the bullet is apparently not sufficient to penetrate the thick skull of the feral hog and the bullets bounce off its head! The man is taken to a nearby hospital and undergoes emergency surgery. He will not return to his occupation.
The wild kingdom still exists
In northern Oklahoma bears have repopulated and a hunting season to limit their numbers has been re-instigated. Cougars are on the rise as well. One couple living near Grand Lake in north eastern Oklahoma have a cougar on their acreage. They can hear it bugle often at night and even in the broad daylight. When out walking on their property the big cat will turn them away if they get within 1000 yards with a screeching roar. Not wanting to kill the animal they are forced to exercise caution when outside their cabin, but the menace is always tangible. Females usually breed several litters of two to three offspring who will remain with the mother often until full maturity and 120 pounds of death if attacking a person. The equivalent strength of these animals against a normal sized man would be having to fight a 700 pound human assailant! Most hunters will admit that of they are being stalked by a cougar or panther they will never know it as the animal can be just a few feet away going undetected.. This is why they usually keep hunting dogs as early warning devices.
Chaos in the Gulf Region
In Houma, Louisiana south of New Orleans on the Mississippi River Delta, the infringement of wildlife is unmistakable. Two to three small children a year are routinely lost to alligators or pumas. One lady hears noises under her wooden porch and deputies later find a female alligator nesting there. In the same vicinity a black panther is found under the front porch of another resident. Living in this region where the Cajun population lives off coastal species like shell fish, red snapper, catfish, while fur trapping, and hunting for indigenous animals, nature represents a constant threat in the form of swamp bears, pumas, alligators, and panthers. We’re not even including poisonous water moccasins that exist in a large population with snake bites being common. To these people, it would seem that nature does strike out at them even though they have been accustomed to this threat environment for generations.
Attacks leave clear evidence not to be mistaken
In the David Paulides 411 Disappearance book series, there are cluster regions in the US and around the world of concentrated missing persons that are beyond explanation. Many forensics experts have corresponded with Paulides over homicides and missing persons investigations trying to find a cause that could be attributed to predatory animal species, but David, a former law enforcement agent, rules out the disappearance of most people due to cougar or bear predation as these two killers leave a trail of evidence. A bear will drag someone off to a safe location eat the victim and even bury what’s left for a future meal. All along that path there will be a trail of blood and torn clothing, the very signature of a bear mauling. A cougar will usually drag its victim beneath a tree in close vicinity, but will even eat the victim right then and there with a signature fine shredding by its teeth of clothing and flesh. In the classic 411 disappearances such evidence does not exist.
When a hike can become deadly
All along coastal California from San Diego and north to Redondo Beach are hiking and mountain bike trails popular among the locals. However, humans are not the only ones who find the trails captivating. An increasing presence of cougars attacking hikers and mountain bike riders has been occurring as well. Apparently the sandy trails are the perfect habitat for the big cats to lay in wait for their prey which it seems more and more are humans as the main dish. People who frequent these trails are advised to take safety precautions such as pepper spray and aerosol horns to try and scare off the opportunistic big cats, but it doesn’t always work.
For those who don’t exercise caution
Co-existence with nature can be an enriching experience for nature lovers, but can also be a bloody proposition for the unwary who don’t respect the territoriality of predators. Just ask the recent Yellow Stone National Park tourists who have gotten too close to bison herds and have been gored and thrown 10 feet into the air. Some live to tell about it after being released from the hospital, and some visitors never do. Yet, even within man’s city environment where traffic, paved streets, plenty of people, and commercial buildings would seem a formidable barrier to wild predators a man was attacked by a bear in downtown Colorado Springs. A retail store surveillance camera reveals a black bear nonchalantly opening the door going to the candy section, grabbing a couple candy bars, and quickly exiting the front entrance. It seems comical but getting mauled by a bear is anything but funny. These incidents are increasing.
