Tim Cox said 'English' was his nickname at school and he added it to his Facebook proifle
Facebook has banned the word 'English' from an electrician's profile despite him using it on the website for nine years.
Tim Cox, 54, of Derby, said it was his nickname at school so he put it in front of his name when he joined Facebook.
But this week he was shocked when the social media website removed it after a complaint by a member of the public.
Facebook said it was a violation of its policies to use a fake name, even though other profiles use names such as Peter Sutcliffe or Osama bin Laden.
After hearing about the decision many of Mr Cox's friends also changed their own profiles to add the word 'English'.
He said: 'I'm not somebody who gets upset at things easily but I really did at this. I got a message from Facebook to say somebody had asked them to review my profile because of my name.
