Fire down below: 'Southern lights' blaze above Antarctica as Space Station hurtles over at height of solar storm

Most inhabitants of the northern hemisphere are familiar with the northern lights - but a photo captured from the International Space Station last week shows that 'southern lights' can be just as spectacular.
As activity blazed on the sun's surface last week, aurora erupted at both of Earth's poles - but space station astronaut Andre Kuipers had a better vantage point than most earth-bound photographers.
