Megaupload crackdown has already started producing results. Rival file sharing service provider FileSonic has announced that it is stopping all file sharing service with immediate effect.

In a statement posted on its website, FileSonic said that it would only allow users to access their own files.

"All sharing functionality of FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally."

Last weekend the US Justice Department cracked down on popular filesharing service provider Megaupload, shutting down the company's website for copyright infringement charges and arresting its owner.

Meanwhile, it is still not clear if the company plans to return money to several thousand subscribers who would have paid up for its range of services.

One subscriber from the UAE said he has not received any emails from the company about cancellation of services.

"I have been subscribing to their premium service since 2009. I recently renewed my annual subscription paying $55. My main reason for subscription was for hassle free downloads. During the past two years I would have probably downloaded about 300 odd audio and video files," said the subscriber.

Free users at Filesonic can store files as big as 1GB but will have unlimited storage for 30 days, Free users however will have limited downloading and limited speed. Free service also provides 100 MB of collaboration space 1. Pro users paying $9 for 30 days will however be able to upload files as large as 5GB with unlimited space and download speed and 1GB of collaboration space.

Filesonic recently announced that it has teamed up with Vobile a provider of content identification and management services, to check all files when they are uploaded to its site - including compressed files - for copyright infringement before users are able to share them publicly.
