Footsteps Down the Hall
Groping for answers here in the thick of the night
Somewhere between the wrong and the right
Is that a phantom standing there in the twilight?
I only exist out of your mind and out of sight,
The delusions that seduce one and all
Pride will always come before the fall
I hear footsteps down the hall
Just an elderly woman wearing a shall,
There's a disturbance coming up ahead
For those underserving who have never bled
Hard to swallow when there should be justice instead
Millions of souls have been misled,
Life used to be a wonderous mystery
Like Christmas morning it seemed to me
At times it seemed I was footloose and fancy free
Then time started running out and that was the key,
Footprints on the moon they say
Long after everyone has left and gone away
That thought just occurred to me the other day
And someone else's spouse will go astray,
A baby will cackle like a little duck
An old man will ponder his bad luck
A corrupt government will run amuck
Regrets in life will leave you stuck,
To see through the fog better men have tried
For freedom many have even died
Yet society continues its downward slide
Many of us hanging on for a rough ride,
Do we really peacefully co-exist?
Or are we simply gorillas in the mist
Borrowed time in history's extinction list
Oh yes Dear Lord I get the gist,
In the depth of the night
When all isn't right
That's my time to write
While others refuse to see the light.
