12160 Debate Rubric
There are two types of debate in this forum:
1. Open Debate-unstructured, anyone can participate.
2. Open Challenge-a person can post an open challenge for anyone to accept or they can challenge someone individually.
Open Challenge Debate Etiquette
One side of the debate will be declared the 'proposition' and the other the 'opposition'. The Proposition and Opposition MUST be declared before the debate begins.
Each debate will begin with six rounds and finish with two lightening rounds for a total of eight rounds.
The first four rounds will be substantive arguments not rebuttals. It is in these rounds that you make a solid argument in support of your position.
Rounds five and six will allow you to present your rebuttal arguments. The final two lightening rounds can be used for rebuttals or to support your position.
Each round will give each person an approximation of equal text time between 300-400 words.
The Lightening Rounds are the closing statements and should be 100 words or less.
Debate Rounds will proceed as follows:
-Proposition Speaker
-Opposition Speaker
-Proposition Speaker
-Opposition Speaker
-Opposition Rebuttal
-Proposition Rebuttal
-Opposition Lightening Round
-Proposition Lightening Round
The 12160 debate structure provides the framework for the debate but not the substance. Modeled loosely after intercollegiate debate rules and modified for text debating, this structure allows for an organized, creative method of presenting your best argument.
Note:
Only two people per debate until teams are formed.

Hell...especially for the right topic...even _I_ might show up to read. I might even be accused of learning something.
