Hadn't Had a Christmas Tree in a Long Time
Thinking here on this bittersweet Christmas Day
You made up a big chunk of my life that got away
All those arcane phrases like, "Please stay."
Mister Nice Guy shrouded in dismay,
Oh, but Baby it's okay it's okay
All things flawed are destined to go away
Plowing downhill in an out of control sleigh
Any semblance of wonder has gone astray,
Haven't had a Christmas tree in a long time
Almost seems like a useless pantomime
Fate, it seems, always turns on a dime
Sad when it cuts a man down in his prime,
Oh, Dear Santa I forgot to sweep the rust off the edges
Despite all the elves at the workshop and the pledges
Should have thought of that before I walked off the ledge
Just another pathetic fool, they'll allege,
It was cold this Christmas Day despite the sun
Despite the fact that the truth is on the run
The hypocrisy of the modern day weighs a ton
Bitten by a reindeer but never pulled my gun,
The legacy of the wounded soul
Spending your time digging this hole
You've forgotten how to play your proper role
What goes on behind your back will take its toll,
And so, Christmas Day will come and pass
Sadly, sanity will not return at last
Jumping Jack Flash aint such a gas
As things turned out you finished last,
Perhaps a bottle of wine to finish the night
As all decent spirits take flight
Santa you can't possibly know my plight
Was the Nautilus really ever so bright?
Wiping all this blood off my hands
Spent much too much time in foreign lands
The events of my life disrupted my plans
Don't know if I can keep up with these demands,
You see I've been on this incorrect wavelength
Christmas Day seems to drain my strength
God oh mighty, it should be different than this
Like the sanctity of a warm kiss,
Oh, son of God you paid a terrible price
Was mankind really worth the roll of the dice?
In God's image yet with the courage of mice
Oh, Father perhaps you should have thought twice,
All things in the world you created
Such beauty yet by the fools so hated
The glistening of new fallen snow so saturated
All of the Saints and their reward so ill fated,
Maybe when the lion lays down with the lamb
Maybe when mankind doesn't rely upon the scam
When clashes don't break out on the horns of a ram
And the Lord spoke, " I am who I am who I am."
"Destroying the New World Order"
