Has anyone considered prepping for the unknown ?
And if so share some ideas, I’ll go first,
I have already stored away 110 gallons of fresh water in 2 55 gallon food grade plastic drums I added
Water purification to them and they will stay fresh until 2017 or later, I have 2 crank lights self contained lighting no batteries just crank them to charge them and they last for 100,000 hours along with many, many 2 liter bottles of water for cooking along with several pounds of rice & beans for protein. A few weapons with plenty of ammo. First aid chest and 6 bottles of “potassium iodide tablets for radiation exposure. I need more of that for my supply . Candles, other food
This is just a few things I have stored I do plan to continue stocking up because I don’t know what the future holds. These are vital times and just one direct hit with a solar flare is all it will take for me to use what I have. If marshal law goes in effect or reactor #4 fails this will hold me for a while.
Last winter was my wake-up call, we had 2 blizzards in Oklahoma and when we could get out to drive we went to the grocery store and WOW ! The shelves were bare I mean not an egg in the entire store, bread you name it was gone! So, this is why I decided to stock up because when the SHTF people will panic and food and supplies will be gone.
Does anyone else have a few suggestions what needs to be prepped for storage?

mystery I got that covered I have this
Field manual survival guide book Department US army FM 21-76
everything I need to know is in here. (priceless )
Ahhh, I just erased my entire post! Apparently I can't drink and post! Is there a law against that yet?
Ok the jest of it was that the book by Readers Digest called Back To Basics tells you how to make the tools that it takes to make shelter and food if you are fortunate enough to have at least 10 to 12 acres. I highly recommend this book and have looked to see if it is for sale. I found that it is in fact for sale. I inherited the second edition from my parents which bought it new in 1981.
To have the knowledge of tool making makes all the difference. To be able to build shelter and harvest and store food is the means of survival.
It tells you how to grow food , plant or animal and how to make it use of it. It tells you a feasible way of making a pond to provide your family with fish, which provides you with omega-3's, a very important element for healthy living.
How to make homemade things such as soaps and perfumes, toiletries, the basics of life.
I also recommend that you look at denture adhesives as a barter item. What better way to make your partner feel good than to give them Polygrip or Fixadent if they have dentures.
I have also gathered finger saws in case of a quick move, and put in my bug out pack, can never tell when you may need to cut up wood for heat or meat for eating, it will work on both.
In case you are able to stay in the same place and defend it you will need to be able to have leavened bread once in a while. To achieve this you must be able to gather yeast from the wild. To achieve this you must have distilled water and something close to cheese cloth and a way to tie this securely to the top of the jar. Let the jar set outside in the summer and inside in the winter,( yeast is everywhere) until you see the water beginning to foam, this is the yeast coming into the jar and reacting with the water. After a few days it will be ready to use.
Feminine products are another issue. Acquiring some to use for barter items would be useful. I am going to sign off for now and get back to the business at hand, which is puting my flock of fowl up for the night.
Homestead, survive, overcome, gather heritage seeds and learn to transfer seeds from year to year!
Looking good preppers!
Merth I do have a food dehydrator I plan to make jerky, fruits and veggies. what I don't have is a seal-a-meal vaccume sealer but, I plan to get one soon.
Bob Bishop you might concider putting together a alice pac ( bug out bag ) if you're thinking of leaving your area.
put some supplies in it this way when you need to get out grab it and go.
magnets, I have some of those and
KRYPKE yes I want my sweet-pea smelling and looking beautiful in a crises high sprits is a must after all it will be a stressful time.
very good my friend , I’ll need to take inventory of what I have and add bunch of these item as I can.
that’s great advice. I do have fire starter, thats no problem I need a rick of wood though i'm working on that I have things to keep me alive for sure. and i'm currently growing a garden no GMO the real deal. organic.
working on learning to do canning.
Barter items are a must. Everyday things that will no longer be available: perfumes, toothbrushes, combs, pencils, bleach (for sanitizing) dental floss, basic medical items such as neosporin and aspirin, boardgames, playing cards etc. For instance, one thing I have read consistently over the years is how just a shred of humanity can be enough to keep people alive in third world conditions. Having toothpaste, soap, spices to make the nasty stuff palatable, perfumes for the women to feel beautiful. There is a scene in the movie, The Book of Eli, (a post apocalyptic movie where pretty much anything pre-collapse is currency) a woman is using a very rare item that makes her smell uniquely beautiful -- shampoo :)
Simple things like a magnifying glass (for starting fires) could mean the difference between living and dieing.
If you think about it, most things that would be virtually priceless if everything shuts down can be found at a dollar store; perfumes, soaps, hygiene products etc, all found for very cheap. Get them while supplies last ;)
You can have a ton of ammo, storable food, and water, but if your will to live is in short supply, it's that Mrs Dash garlic and herb seasoning, the dollar store perfume you stocked up on, the UNO playing cards, and your last copy of Lewiss Carrol's Alice and Wonderland that will keep your spirits up and hope alive :)
magnets and silver colloidal ;)
