If a Deity is There

I remember you

On the road of life it's true

You and I both embedded in the human zoo

In a world gone mad clinging to a rational view,

How I wish I’d never met her

She went through my life like a zephyr

She certainly would have earned the scarlet letter

Now I’m seeking for the better,

We were all born onto this sphere

Of wonderment, desolation, and fear

Someone should have made it clear

It seems that disaster is always near,

Just as gravity waves warp light

My love is there but out of sight

Realizations do not alter my plight

The need to be held doesn’t change in the endless night,

I have to wonder sometimes if a deity is there

Amongst all this sorrow and despair

It’s the influence of evil more likely to be shared

Lord, take me above and beyond if you care,

The depth of a mirror into infinity

Some spend their lives searching for divinity

Others endure the suffering silently

Something is missing though I express myself succinctly,

They say you die a thousand times if you’re a coward

If by a thousand daggers you were showered

I fear all truth and wisdom have been devoured

And only fools and charlatans have been empowered,

The porthole of another dimension

That I view with such apprehension

Wondering am I worthy of ascension?

Wishing I could find an ounce of prevention,

The time will be revealed to no man

Perhaps you should have reconsidered your plan

Perhaps we’re out of sync with our time span

Too late for a nuclear arms ban,

I never would have abandoned you I know that now

If I could travel back in time and knew how

So long ago the liquidation of the sacred cow

Had I simply remained faithful to a sacred vow.
