If Only
A shooting star lights up the night
No one here to hold me tight
Gone but not out of mind or our of sight
She was sure she was always right,
Just a splash from the wishing well
Abandoned by a Southern Bell
An Asian queen uniquely in her own hell
Skeletons in the closet you can't tell,
It'd be so much easier if there were only truth
I'm channeling John Wilkes Booth
What you need today is a detective sleuth
What's on your breath Honey is that Vermouth?
I took you at your word and trusted you
Then suddenly my world went askew
How lovely, you found someone new
Forcing me into the dating zoo,
I never wanted again
We didn't even remain friends
it just that arrow the Cupid sends
But too often it suddenly ends,
All those dreams that never made it
In the beginning when we were close knit
All hope lost in a bottomless pit
Marriage today aint worth spit,
But, I try not to be bitter
I remember you hinted at being a double hitter
You never could have been a baby sitter
Let me send off another poem on twitter,
Lord give me the strength to forgive
I swear to do right as long as I live
However this world is a fallen place
And I fear I cannot keep pace,
I'm just lost in the blur of time
Recollections bitter sweet and maligned
What can we count on please define
If only love grew on a vine.
