If Only

Watching life go by at such a pace
It’ll drain the color from your face
And all you needed was an embrace
But the distance was too far away to interface,

Once there was love and freedom
Once there was a margin of error to be dumb
But somehow we came under the gun
And logic and common sense were overcome,

My little Darling where did you go?
Erosion grinds everything away so slow
No one hangs around long enough to know
While too many descend into skid row,

I give thanks for cloudy days
Where failure isn’t so easily exposed by the sun’s rays
Where introspection isn’t permanent it’s just a phase
Taking us away briefly from society’s maze,

But don’t ask me why my eyes are red and glazed
As I watch insanity becoming the new craze
Nobody is sincere nobody stays
We were told righteousness always pays,

How clandestine we find life to be
Love is fleeting as we pursue our destiny
The norm has become crisis and tyranny
If there were only peace if only you’d allow me.
