If Only I could
The ghosts of love how they fade away
All those promises of the future gone astray
Treating lovers like old newspapers from yesterday
This form of cruelty is common place today,
So many children raised by a single parent only
Families broken and one spouse left lonely
Just so you could pursue being free
Your special brand of cruelty,
Those abandoned hopes left behind
Never occurs to so many just to be kind
Love that was once there impossible to find
Just relax, grab a bottle, and unwind,
The emergence of a new world grown cold
Commitment and love impractical and old
Morals and integrity all bought and sold
A promiscuous game truth be told,
How could I ever have believed in you?
Foolishly seduced by the allure of morning dew
Breaking hearts simply for a change of view
What was once considered lies are now true
Being a fool in the world with my head held high
Thought I could read character just in case of all the lies
Love was really just betrayal in disguise
Living alone is now a sad compromise,
A blind bear groping through the woods
Who made the mistake and misunderstood
Love is an illusion more harm than good
I'd turn that clock back if only I could.

Thank you, Doc. You're right, when we are young and strong we think it's going to last forever. I have so many wonderful memories, they far outweigh the bad. <3
old ranger_68 I read your Aunt's poetry. She was a gifted lady! Thank you.
Sweetine2 Honey I know you are suffering from guilt and having epiphanies about what you did in the past to yourself and others because once you were a young lass and thought you were indestructible, don't feel bad Babe, so did I. We thought we would be young lions forever! And guess what, time caught up with us, Honey, I suffer fro tinges of guilt myself never thinking I did enough. Babe, let that guilt go pray to God. Thank you for your comments you are so wonderful. Yes, we both failed and we both loved too. Send me a photo Honey. Thank you so much for your heartfelt replies. You are much appreciated!
I'm the same way, Oldranger. I remember each of mine. Somehow, I ended up with everyone's family Bibles. When they divided things after a death they always gave me the Bibles because no one else wanted them. Their loss. I've peeked into the heart and souls of my loved ones when I see what's inside their Bible. Words they never spoke aloud, but kept them safe next to God. I find poems, pics, old pressed flowers, newspaper clippings, I love it all.
Your words always touch my heart, sparks memories I normally stuff away. I wish I'd taken love more seriously when I was younger, I thought I was invincible and would live forever. Love was like a fleeting thing, here today and gone tomorrow, so I lived on defense. By the time we figure out how to get things right, we're too old to start over.
@oldranger_68 Thank you for the link to your aunts poetry, I love them!
