If You Don't Mind

Between rare moments of laughter and numerous disasters
Confused women and white water rafters
Blood shot eyes and discount home crafters
Struggling with the illusion of happily ever after,

Let me kindly ask if you don't mind
Is there really any salvation that I might find,

Dreaming about the phantom of a life I once shared
Wondering if I'll ever find someone who cares
Then there's that realization that nothing's really fair
Just hoping before I die someone will be there,

Love is a riddle and I'm caught in the middle
Couldn't care less if I ever play the fiddle
I've got an empty wallet and a package of Skiddles
Where did I go wrong that's the big riddle,

Let me kindly ask if you don't mind
Is there really any salvation that I might find.

I keep hoping things might get a little better
Thinking about when I lost my Irish Setter
I had no idea my woman was such a go getter
She wanted to leave and I guess I just let her,

Is there anyway you can ever really get back?
Used to be easy to get a lover in the sack
Just can't seem to get my life on track
Especially when everyone just turns their back,

Let me kindly ask if you don't mind
Is there really any salvation that I might find.

I didn't take love seriously, I guess. I married at 17, he left me pregnant, I was a single mother waay to young. But, I wouldn't change a thing. But, from that moment on, I believed love was fleeting so, love the one you're with. It set a bad precedent in my life. I loved a good looking man on a Harley, with party favors in his pocket. But I waited till my kids left home to ride, then I rode life till the wheels fell off.

I married four times: I drove one to drinking, drove one to the Lord, one is in a nursing home and one is dead. I didn't do it. My childhood sweetheart and husband ran away because I was pregnant and wouldn't have an abortion. It taught me that love wasn't stable, when a dude got serious, I was gone, jack! See what I deprived my own self of? Real love. Now I'm much older, I deal with MS and RA, but I'm a fighter. Doc, if I were twenty years younger, I'd come run you to the courthouse or the chapel- but, I'm not. And, I can't. BUT ALL IS NOT LOST....faith answers all the questions of your beautiful, poignant words. Some have echoed in my own heart. I have one thing to look forward to- eternity. My faith sustains me.
