Illusion of Ignorant Bliss
Thought I’d endured the darkest of nights
Until your unpredictable flight
As if love was forever blinded from my sight
Feel like I’ll crash from this thousand-foot height,
Seems like time escapes me everyday
This decrepit life since you’ve gone away
Don’t think I’ll ever ask anyone to ever stay
Seems there’s less and less time to pray,
Living alone is like death in itself
Like some spoiled condiment left on a shelf
Do you ever realize what you did to yourself?
This is more than I’d wish upon anyone else,
Glass houses from which to cast stones
Leaving so many lovers alone
All the hypocrisy that evil have shown
A cold wind seems to chill my bones,
Somehow life escapes our control
Broken relationships take their toll
Flight 19 lost near Chicken Sholes
Deprived of happiness, what is your goal?
I never intended to end up on this road
All the minefields upon which I’ve strolled
The loss of love such a heavy load
God’s plan seems bought and sold,
Those misgivings about growing old
All the bear traps that suddenly unfold
Worst is the abandonment that went unforetold
I never needed that sacrificial calf’s gold,
Strange how we learn to adapt and co-exist
Unaware of a spouse’s secret tryst
Living under the illusion of ignorant bliss
It seems only the blind will continue to persist.
