There's a sinking feeling I can't shake

Has my whole life just been a mistake?

While the news I hear is just all fake

Can we ever get the truth for goodness sake?

Can't seem to let out this child inside to be free

Too much heartbreak has forsaken me

Looking from the bitter present to those sweet memories

Humbled to my bended knee,

Wish I could escape inside some golden hope

Peering at the world through a periscope

It might just help me to better cope

But I'm consigned to this darkness in which I grope,

Tears in my eyes from some old sentimental song

Did I do more right than I did wrong?

The nights seem like they are getting long

Remembering when my country was strong,

From sea to shining sea

This is where everyone wants to flee

A place where people of the world all envy

Yet, it all seems driven by an evil decree,

Cherished by my children and lovers too

Now they’re all so little and so few

Seems like the blues are right on que

Never know when you’re life will go askew,

All it takes is one bad person to do the job

The light from the sky they can even rob

Brighter days when you used to hobnob

Now you live in a vacuum without a heartthrob,

Heroes and warriors seem to fade way

Those dreams and hopes shattered like clay

A silent night on the bed where you lay

A very few who are loyal and willing to stay,

Toss a flower into the grave

There’s no one else left to save

Never should have taken more than you gave

Now I’m waiting for the next massive wave.
