Just a Little Short of Perfection
All I wanted was a lasting connection
Perhaps just a little short of perfection
But for the slow human dissection
All that hidden pain behind detection,
The scars you carried with you
That you inflected right back on a few
There was no sea of sky so blue
So many past regrets upon which to chew,
The human mind constantly in a grind
Grumbling over whatever it can find
Searching for that spirit dance to bind
Leaving all that pain far behind,
Each one of us attempting that walk
Over that sacred hallowed rock
Don’t scream just use a gentle knock
Try to understand but please don’t mock,
The journey on course like a submarine
Overcome by emotions and weird scenes
The hopes in life and such dreams
All those prophetic schemes,
Oh that celestial connection
Please not another course correction
Trapped in a delusional intervention
Meant to be more than a spontaneous erection,
But the years tarnish that newish glow
Those feelings you got from your head to your toes
Become mired in a world of woe
The heat of attraction trapped in fallen snow,
Memories no longer delicate and fair
Recollections that can be spared
Feelings that were once meaningful and shared
Fall from an icy summit in despair,
Yes, my Dear of course I cared
But, I wasn’t the one who had that affair
When time and tenderness ended right there
What was once love becomes a nightmare.
