Living the Life of an Unknown
If you know anything about me
Sometimes I’m barking up the wrong tree
Wondering if any of my former lovers ever miss me
Sometimes being in the right is being lonely,
Just like an astronaut all alone
Wishing he wasn’t so far from home
What made her heart be as cold as stone?
Sometimes I can hear this moan,
I don’t want to die alone
With only a telephone
No fire to warm my bones
I’m living the life of an unknown,
Strange living on the surface here
Living way too close to fear
No one to love that’s even near
Guess I just can’t make myself clear,
Talking to myself like someone cares
Like some kind of insane nightmare
I’ll have another drink with my singing bear
He juggles for me in his lair,
At least he won’t complain about my long hair
It’s neither here nor there
Purity of heart is rather rare
Almost as rare as a singing bear,
I don’t want to die alone
With only a telephone
No fire to warm my bones
I’m living the life of an unknown.
