This is Now not Then

Led down that winding path to nowhere

I thought we were both supposed to share

And all that talk about how much you cared

Respect? Why you dumped it over there,

You don’t stab your partner in the back

Say things you can never take back

Make fun of what they lack

Ridicule them with a wise crack,

What am I saying? This is now not then

Something has happened to women and men

There’s nothing sacred left to defend

Leaving an unrepairable fence to mend,

Ready to bail at the very first hole in the road

When the going gets tough dump the load

Should have known just how much it showed

Taking advantage of a man in the forgiveness mode,

Stumbling down that deceptive slope

Today they’ll play you like a dope

If asked if you were ever in love, she said, “Nope”.

Some of us wonder why love crushes hope,

Don’t go into that crevasse there’s ice in there

A cold hearted woman can cause even more despair

Aw but for the fools like me willing to dare

A relationship shouldn’t be a nightmare,

Human nature synonymous with self-destruction

It never desires to learn from instruction

Hearts that should beat together now in separation

And you ask, “Where’s the inspiration?”
