Lurking from the roadside

A grown man alongside his elderly father are giving an account to the Canadian author of several books on Sasquatch. They are recalling a chilling incident that happened when the now grown up son was a boy and he was accompanying his father on a long drive on the Transcontinental Highway through the wilderness of their vast country. It had been a day of furniture moving in his dad’s truck and as the evening grew darker they had stopped alongside the road to take a nap before heading back out on the road. They dozed off along that darkened remote highway, but something had awakened the man’s son.

Monster alert

The boy yawned and looked in the side view mirror. What he saw made him scream for his dad to wake up and start driving. Finally aroused the man turned the key, engaged the clutch, and put his pedal to the metal! After driving for some time the boy calmed down and his father asked him why he had gotten so hysterical. His son informed him that an ape-like figure was slowly creeping alongside the truck toward the passenger side door. The boy described it as appearing like a Gorilla. The elderly father and son had not discussed the occurrence in years before sitting down for an interview with the author, yet he sensed the urgency that had startled the two as they told their story.

Vanished

In the now defunct Men’s Saga Magazine, a popular publication on newsstands during the 1960’s and 1970’s was an interesting account of a disturbing encounter with what appears to have been not only a Bigfoot, but the disappearance of a man while taking a hunting and fishing vacation. A family had contacted the staff writer about the vanishing of a beloved uncle during the 1920’s that had also necessitated a sheriff’s investigation into his disappearance. According to the family it was customary for the man to take a vacation to a remote cabin where he fished and hunted for deer. He would notify his family when he was leaving and when he expected to return.
When this family member did not come home after the anticipated time the authorities were notified. It is unclear as to whether Park Rangers or the sheriffs went looking for the man, but they did find an empty cabin, evidence of some type of struggle, and the uncle’s diary which was returned to the family. It consisted of a day by day journal and events became rapidly alarming after the first day. The uncle wrote that he arrived, put away his belongings, and went out hunting, but found no deer or other animals to hunt. He hadn’t taken much food with him as he had planned on fishing and pan frying his meals.

Spotted

On the second day of his trip the uncle reported seeing what he thought at first was another man crouching at the shore of a pond, but closer inspection revealed a grotesque man-like beast that he described as scary. The uncle remained quiet and hidden saying that the creature drank some water from its hands and then walked away, but the man was not sure whether or not the entity was aware of his presence or not. The diary read that he left the site and locked himself up in the cabin for the night and did not sleep well. Even though he had a hunting rifle he did not seem too confident in his protection. The uncle wrote that in the morning he heard foot falls outside his cabin and whatever or whoever it was seemed to be circling the cabin. He waited until whoever it was left. He then cautiously came out through the door and looked around. From that point on the man felt as though he were being watched. The problem was that he was hungry. He vowed to do some fishing get some food in his stomach and then to leave. He would take his rifle with him.

Should have left sooner

By the afternoon he had caught some fish, but had not seen the creature he had observed the day before. Still feeling as though he was being watched he returned to the cabin and cooked his fish. He ate ravenously and then got very tired after his meal. He fell asleep in short order, but planned on cutting his vacation short and leaving the next morning. That night there was rustling outside the cabin walls. This time an intentionally forceful attempt was made on getting into the cabin! Pounding on the walls and the door left him terrified. He blew out the coal oil lamp and kept his rifle in hand all night long as the activity continued through the night!

Last chance

Just about early morning, they as he said, finally left and no longer made noise from outside. He collected his belongings and packed up to leave. His last entry in his diary was that he would now try to carefully head back while keeping a watchful eye. This was the last of what had been entered into the uncle’s personal account of his terrifying foray into the unknown, and it was the last trace ever found of his whereabouts. For years the family had made inquiries to local police and missing persons, wondering if their beloved uncle had been murdered by a killer out there in the woods, but only the chilling account left in his diary could give any clue as to his fate.

Cow Man

An interesting account comes from a Bigfoot site on You Tube of the account given by an employer in Idaho. The man was a contractor and spoke of a very dedicated employee who he could always count on no matter what. He had grown to trust this worker who lived on small farm with his family. However, one morning his most trusted man on the job didn’t show so fearing that something bad may have happened or the guy might have had car trouble the boss headed to his employee’s house. There he found the man, his wife and child loading up their possessions to leave and the house having been ransacked! The boss asked his capable employee what had happened and the story became bizarre.

Talking to who?

According to the man there had been some strange incidents on the property days earlier his son had wandered outside while the mother finished some house work. When she noticed the young child had slipped out of the house she ran outside looking for him. Thankfully the boy was alright but told her he had seen “Cow Man” and had spoken to him! She noted a strange smell like wet dog that she had never noticed before! She asked her little boy to describe “Cow Man” The boy said he was very tall and had fur all over himself like a cow and that he smelled like the cows even though he was a man!

Not safe indoors either

The mother quickly brought her child inside and locked the doors waiting for her husband to return home. When he arrived home he told his boss that after listening to the wife he had thought his son’s imagination had gotten away with him and didn’t take the incident too seriously. After all, what does a kid know? That night after dinner the husband and wife were relaxing and watching TV. They thought they heard a noise outside and though it odd that their dog hadn’t barked. The mother went to the boy’s room to find he was talking to someone outside the window. Since the house was on pier and beam the window sat close to ten feet off the ground. When she gazed outside whatever she saw sent her screaming for her husband who grabbed his shotgun and ran into the room. Looking out the window he saw what had sent his wife into hysterics. It was “Cow Man”!

Repelling the intruder

He quickly cocked and fired the shotgun though the window and said that the huge figure took off running so fast that not even a deer could have departed the area that quickly. This all culminated after the wife had seen this same thing on the property a day earlier and had grabbed her son and brought him in. The husband went outside with a flashlight and searched the area and found the dog they had depended on to be their security guard dead, but he hadn’t connected the dots yet. They were so upset he explained that they had gone over to his brother’s place to spend the night. His wife was sure that this “Cow Man” had been talking to the boy and her son had somehow understood what was being said. The couple reasoned that perhaps this had been a female Bigfoot who had lost her child and was planning on taking their boy as a replacement to help her cope with her grief. Native Americans have reported their children being abducted from their villages. The child described the voice of Cow Man, as he called him, making bird song sounds that were soothing to him. Somehow they got the impression that this was a female who had been attracted to their son.

Exit strategy

The next day upon returning to their home they found the house completely ravaged by some intruder who had knocked over the refrigerator, thrown furniture about, and knocked holes in the walls. That had been enough of a calling card for the family he explained to his employer, they were getting out! This particular incident had become way too much for them to handle! They called his brother and his wife to see if they could help get them off the property as soon as possible. This is one of many odd and yet not so rare an incident where people seem to able to attribute human like behavior these hairy bipedal creatures that some people believe we share the planet with.
