Dutch Royal Mint has made what appears to be world’s first coin to feature the Quick Response (QR) Code, a matrix of black and white squares, which can be scanned by a mobile phone camera and recognized by an app.

The codes, which are increasingly used in trade and advertising, usually serve as links to a website with more information about the product.

The code featured on the tail side of the coin made to celebrate the Royal Dutch Mint’s 100th anniversary, leads to a website dedicated to the event.

The coin comes in two varieties – the 5-euro silver version and the 10-euro gold one.

[TLS]-I can see this tech being implemented very quickly into all gold and silver coins for the government to gain control over what is currently an anonymous form of exchange. I can see as the dollar collapses a law being made to force all gold and silver to be registered or exchanged for RFID tagged coins. Imagine buying some silver rounds from a store with a credit-card or being forced by law to show ID upon purchase. You then a year later spend them at a local store after they have appreciated and the clerk mandated by law has to scan them and collect the capital gains tax you owe... That system would also essentially make private sales or trade illegal because the coins would not be scanned and tax collected. This system would allow all transactions to be tracked and amounts of PM's owned per individual databased for future collection or yearly collection, basically making the gains on the PM's worthless due to the taxing schemes that they would impose. This would force most people who wouldn't want to break the law to stay in dollars, they would also keep the dollars anonymous to further incentivise dollar use in the face of inflation. This would both continue their ponzi scheme through forced confidence and by taxing all gains on Gold and Silver in dollar amounts yearly would heavily suppress the legal PM markets along with countering hyperinflation. Though as solid as this plan seems I think the problem the system will face is that most people when faced with such losses at some point will buy gold and silver and stiff the tax man in a massive revolt.
