When we don't know the source of a mystery especially when it involves the cause of missing persons, and we're not getting a whole lot of cooperation from the authorities it only leaves us in a fog of suspicion. The question of government agencies under whose jurisdiction frequent and numerous disappearances occur from is just as concerning as the vanishing people never to be seen again is. When an independent private investigator like David Paulides, former policeman, detective, ATF, and human resources specialist calls on Park Rangers, Forestry Officials, and federal special agents for statistics they should have to solve a deadly mystery, why do they stonewall him?
Stonewalled
Though Paulides has been often times frustrated by seeming negligence by the US National Parks system when making simple requests for a list of unsolved missing persons cases so he can try to solve the enigmatic problem you might think they would be enthusiastic about his assistance, but they're not! David attempts to keep from being very critical about this aspect of his research and writing probably so he does not alienate them anymore and create even more obstruction to his efforts. Still, it has to very perplexing to experience such resistance to a problem that is obviously costing lives!
Plans that ran astray
In one confounding case an 82 year old experienced hunter is with a party of men who are younger and some almost as old as himself. They are working a hunting ground in legal season at a national park. The strategy is for the younger and more mobile hunters to flush out some deer by moving in a line toward the 82 year old's position and he will simply wait quietly sitting on a stump ready to fire when the bucks break out of the brush and right into his range. He is told that they will pick him up in an hour or two and for him to simply wait for the game to come to him and then shoot. This man has been through this hundreds of times. He knows the drill. So it begins and the hunters down wind of the deer begin to drive them toward the elderly veteran of many hunts. His rifle in hand as he waits.
Unbelievable
Strangely, no shot is ever fired and the work that the younger hunters have accomplished has been for nothing as all they find of the old man is the stump he was sitting on and his rifle. He is nowhere to be found. Did he wander off and get disoriented? Was he sick? Maybe he was taken by a predator like a bear or cougar. The hunting party thoroughly searched the area. This elderly hunter had bad knees and was legally blind in one eye. He did not get around very well so wandering off any great distance was impossible. No evidence of blood, torn clothing, shots fired, or disturbance on the grass. The elderly hunter had simply vanished without a trace! A thorough rescue and search effort by authorities went into motion and no results were found.
Gone
The poor wife of the hunter who had called the lodge where the men were staying got the news and immediately drove down to a hunting ground her husband of more than 50 years knew like the back of his hand. She participated in the search efforts only to be left stunned and baffled at the inability of the his friends and professional park employees not to mention volunteers to even find a trace of a man who had engaged in a routine sport he'd enjoyed his entire life. Sadly, this has become a common incident among the thousands of campers, hikers, and hunters who come to America's national parks to get away from their worries and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Abducted
Thanks to another writer who follows the weird world of disappearances, Rusty West, we have perhaps if not an answer to the 411 dilemma at least a much better insight into who or what and how this manifestation operates. The victim may be one of the few who survived a rendezvous with fate such as this and lived to tell about it! What comes next is truly disturbing!
Prepared for almost anything
A team of Forestry technicians is air dropped near Denali Peak in Alaska. Their job is to examine the conditions on a hiking trail, make note of landscape, recommend brush haul off if it presents a hazard, and stick close to each other so that no one is lost. They are equipped for emergency survival with gear, medical aid kits, provisions, and water. The men quickly begin their careful descent down the trail analyzing the fauna and topography of the area as they make their trek. After a few hours they take a break to eat and refresh themselves. One of the team grabs a roll of toilet paper and let's everyone know he's going behind some brush to do his business. Some 15 minutes go by and no one has seen the man come out so they begin calling him, but no response!
No trace
Within minutes the men are making a swift and vigorous attempt to find their co-worker! They finally call in to headquarters for aerial assistance and more back-up. Hours go by as the men search but night puts a halt to their efforts. A well trained forestry technician, well equipped, and experienced has vanished without a clue to what happened! The next day a well organized effort is launched and rescuers spread out in every direction moving all day long in a probing pattern. As night falls and temperatures are dropping the man is finally located!
Found
Covered in scratches and blisters, dazed and incoherent, he is loaded on a stretcher and care-flighted to a hospital aboard a helicopter! He is an impossible distance from where he disappeared from in rough terrain found with his shoes gone! Like many others never seen again, occasionally shoes are found, perhaps thrown 30 feet upward in the branches of a tree, a pile of the victim's clothes may be found either folded neatly or dropped to the ground as if they were peeled off the missing person's body right there and left. However, this man is lucky. he was found in time.
Frightening
The next day after treatment and rest he is interviewed by a number of Forestry investigators and agents. Unlike the few who are ever found alive after these bizarre disappearances, found with amnesia, disoriented, and unable to recall anything this rescued individual imparts some important clues. He says that as he relieved himself within sight of his work party everything suddenly went black as though he had passed out. He was then awakened by the sensation of being carried through brush and over the wilderness terrain by a powerful force so swift as he was dragged along that his shoes fell off! He could not scream he felt as though he were under the influence of some kind of presence he was powerless against but couldn't see or understand it. He was simply helpless.
Grim realization
The next thing he knew, the man regained consciousness again. He was covered from head to toe with cuts, abrasions, and insect bites, feeling like he'd been through a meat grinder he realized he was alone, but now a very strange feeling of dread came over him. Making a weird comment that he felt like a banana that had been peeled the confused worker claimed that he now felt like a meal that was about to be eaten! That someone or something was preparing to devour him It left him in total panic!
Point of separation
Fearing for his life he dragged himself to an open field hoping his orange backpack would be spotted. A buddy of his on the crew said if it hadn't been for the bright orange color they might not have picked him up. The question now was who or what had snatched him? It seems the presence of others nearby seemed to have saved his life. As David Paulides often emphasizes that a common denominator of 411 diapearances is the point of separation! This time when the forestry technician had left to relieve himself though he was not far away!
Unjust repercussions
After the interview and a couple more grillings during the days that followed in an attempt to get anymore information about the near unsolved missing persons case, the forestry technician was dismissed of his duties. Under the category of wreckless endangerment as due to the search and rescue efforts, men and material were put at risk! According to his friend the man was so shaken up by his experience and so baffled at being terminated from his job for it that he never returned to pick up his final paycheck! Are these situations and reactions by the National Park system typical? It would seem so. Keep in mind that Paulides is also a Bigfoot researcher but is hesitant to correlate the disappearances with maps of these unsolved missing persons locations and Sasquatch sightings. Why? Could this cause hysteria that would cost the national parks revenue and visitors?
