National Debt is an oppression. National Debt is a tool of manipulation. National Debt causes our nation to become a slave to those from whom we borrow.

*The US national debt now exceeds $14 trillion: a liability of $129,000 per taxpayer!

*The US unfunded liabilities debt (promised future obligations) now exceeds $114 trillion: a debt of over $1 million per taxpayer!

And now our Federal Government wants to try to solve our current financial quagmire by incurring
more debt!

The deficit issue is in reality a MORAL issue, not just because of the controversial activities and organizations the government is funding (which is deplorable with or without a budget crisis), but because we have a moral duty to leave our posterity with a country that is in good fiscal shape in order to pass on the blessings of liberty.

In failing to do so, we are failing ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.

Liberty Counsel Action is telling Congress: Cut Spending Now! Do Not Raise the Debt Ceiling!

As you probably know, this country hit the existing debt ceiling on May 16, 2011. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says we have until August 2nd, at which point the American government will begin to default on loans and no longer be able to borrow money without paying exorbitant interest rates. Additionally, if the U.S. Treasury continues to print massive amounts of money, it will further debase our nation's currency.

Congress is in a unique position right now to bring about changes with lasting effects – to use the leverage of the upcoming debt ceiling vote to encourage agreement on real spending cuts, spending caps, and a balanced budget amendment. 

The Liberty Counsel Action "Break America's Curse of Debt" Petition demands that Congress stop this cycle of fiscal insanity, stop out-of-control government spending, and stop printing more currency and further devaluing the dollar. We believe this is a moral, fiscal, and national security imperative!
