Pride Before the Fall
The price of wisdom at such a terrible cost
Pondering the sorrow and the lives lost
It was overboard it seems I was tossed
Some handle it drunken and sauced,
Human nature self destructive at best
With power and passion fools become obsessed
Their behavior evil as if demon possessed
Shameful deeds that will never be confessed,
Incapable of self restraint man plods on
Making the same mistakes until the final dawn
Victims of the tyrants like chessboard pawns
Wisdom offered by disciples met with yawns,
The quest for lust, greed, and wealth like a drug
Making the arrogant and evil powerful and smug
Making true love extinct and forgotten with a shrug
Graves for themselves the fools have dug,
The world of materialism the illusion we seek
The stench from a battlefield that will wreak
Pride before the fall as they plummet from their peak
Their remains to be scavenged from a vulture's beak.
