Ottawa’s Salvation Army has fired its executive director following an internal audit.
Toronto-based Major John Murray of the organization’s public relations and development division, said $240,000 has gone missing from the George St. Booth Centre’s administrative resources account.
“We anticipate that is going to be all,” said Murray, who called it a “rather sophisticated fraud.”
The missing funds isn’t money that was donated, but that which came from government funds and partners, Murray said. He said the amount gone missing wasn’t immediately noticeable because the Salvation Army is a multi-million dollar organization in Ottawa. For the same reason, the money won’t impact the operation of any of the Salvation Army’s programs.
It’s not known how long money has been disappearing, but Murray said the executive director had held the position for eight years, so that is the period being examined.

'These' people sure do have a rather unique way, of perceiving a situation, or scenario - case in point:
"The missing funds isn’t money that was donated"
"came from government funds and partners"
So what would that be considered - an investment or a donation?
"the amount gone missing wasn’t immediately noticeable because the Salvation Army is a multi-million dollar organization in Ottawa"
So what that boils down to is this - organizations with lots of money, typically don't care to keep track of the money, and to lose (gone missing), almost a quarter of a million dollars, is no problemo - especially if the organization is in OTTAWA - like the organization called GOVERNMENT?
"the money (gone missing) won’t impact the operation of any of the Salvation Army’s programs."
So according to Major Murray; 'they' don't depend on monies ($240,000) handed to them, by GOVERNMENTS and PARTNERS, to fund 'their' programs - its only the money that their 'Santas' and soldiers collect, as they set up for donations in the shopping malls, and perhaps through other means as well...Hmmm?
I an certain, that two hundred and forty thousand dollars, could go a very long way, in re-stocking the shelves of the various "food banks" - that of which, we are constantly reminded are at critically low levels.
