STEVENSON, Wash. - Searchers have found skeletal remains and jewelry in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where a California woman was last seen during the Rainbow Family gathering.
The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that searchers would continue to look for other evidence to link the remains and jewelry to Marie Hanson, a 54-year-old South Lake Tahoe, Calif. woman whose family reported her missing July 9.
Hanson had spontaneously decided to travel with neighbors to the annual gathering of the Rainbow Family of Living Light. The counter-culture group prays for world peace each July 4. As many as 20,000 people attended the event in southwest Washington this summer.
