Having a seasonal flu shot, or even a case of ordinary flu, appears to "prime" an H1N1 vaccination and make it more effective, new research from Italy shows.
The results are a surprise, because seasonal flu shots alone give no protection against H1N1.
But the finding provides evidence that a seasonal flu shot would be especially useful for children, or for people with weakened immune systems.
