Haunted by shadows from the crevasse of memories

A man who thought himself talented and visionary

Abandoned instead and now cautionary

Forgive me if I request some clarity,

It seems I’ve run into a self-replicating maze

Not easily bypassed in order to enter another phase

That might explain my hypnotic gaze

In an era where the idiots get praise,

Thought I caught a glimpse of something real

Something approaching honest appeal

While it seems all of our fates are sealed

It’s the megalomaniacs who pursue conquest with such zeal,

Oh please my estranged betrayer

Was I really such a player?

The human brain is like an onion layer after layer

I haven’t lately run into any soothsayers,

We might just enter the paranormal realm

But, there’s too many Communists at the helm

I see the expressions of people who are overwhelmed

Stopped to read the inscription on a tombstone beneath an elm,

It read like a bit of poetry

A person’s life in a neat little summary

Without the judgment from any jury

Thankfully devoid of any skullduggery,

Biding my time I walked right through a spirit

It moaned and I could hear it

Sadly there were no kindred souls near it

I knew by intuition there was no need to fear it,

Descending upon this burial mound

Where there was no compassion or love to be found

My scent would not be picked up by any blood hound

Still I blindly groped around,

Then I recalled another life from the past

Noble ambitions that could never last

Attempting to conquer a region much too vast

You were my lover but it ended too fast,

Deep in the shadows of the memory crevasse

That’s where I encountered an unfamiliar mass

Made of alien molecules and gas

It whispered to me and the mystery was solved at last.
