Should Mods Delete Duplicate Post and videos? Inquiring minds want to know??

I just saw the 12th copy of some Alex Jones Video go up. It is a bit frustrating, when a new post, an unique post, are buried by replication.

It also lowers our search engine rankings considerably on sites like google .

I am sure it's also frustrating when a blogger here  has the same post followed only hours or even minutes after another.

Your thoughts please.

Yes, indeed, duplicate posts can be annoying at times. I made them too, although erroneously, on two occasions.

From the comments made on this post, I gather that, members who post regularly are not very comfortable or happy with the idea of their post being deleted, if it is a duplicate. But, I guess, we all need to realize that the site is not just about those that post and share information but, also those that read the information, watch videos and engage in discussions via comments. Though, every one posting on the website must work towards minimizing occurrence of duplicate posts, I don't think, at present, every one actually and religiously does a site search, before making a new post, to ensure there is no duplicate post made earlier. Hence, in my opinion, it would be best to set a number of duplicate posts one can be excused for before being barred from making additional posts for a certain period of time (it could be a fortnight or a month or whatever else the admins deem appropriate). Each time one posts a duplicate, let that member receive an admin warning/alert and on the third warning, that members' ability to post new videos and discussions as well as ability to comment may be revoked for a certain period of time.

By following this process, I think, members will gradually take to doing a site search before making new posts and, perhaps, over a period of time they may even inculcate it as a habit.

Alternatively, the idea of 'posts being "approved", by admins, before they appear on the site' also appears to be a reasonable measure. However, it will significantly increase the work load on admins and it may not be a very practical thing to do if 100s (or more) of new posts are made daily.

sorry this is frustrating, James.  I can only tell you how I'd feel.  If a Mod deleted my post because it was a duplicate, I'd believe that it would be the right thing to do once I realized that what I posted was a duplicate.

Thanks Nikki, many complaints get unanswered, and I suspect now that ning was bought by an Ad company things are going to get much worse for us here.

James, Ning claims there's no safeguard and other site creators are upset about this too.

Most likely, the former member made a very big deal about it, esp to new members.

A former member who runs a ning site said she had a way to keep out duplicates, I asked her many times and she never replied how this could be done. I deleted her account shortly after :) It would be so nice if this could be done automatically:)

@Hollywood, please hold on to that idea. If we get our own site someday, we'll need it!

Fortunately we don't get much porno but often spam is of a sexual nature. Members here are very good at letting us know right away if they see something like this and we take it down immediately.
