Silencing of Man’s Screams
Alone with my thoughts in this darkest hour
Blackness outside and a thunder shower
The echo of something with evil powers
Ominous enough to wilt spring flowers,
Could it be the howling of the wind
Or those voices telling me I've sinned
With a pillow under my chin
As those memories continue to spin,
Her ghost has appeared as it does once in a while
A tormented spirit it seems in exile
A translucent figure standing on the isle
Once a lover and now beguiled,
Am I perceiving something from the other side?
Or is my sanity beginning to slide?
Shadows dart in and out then hide
All this as I lay here, but I’m not petrified,
The silent hours spent in lonely reflection
No fools here to bring about rejection
Too long without a connection
My God just give me some affection,
Wandering through space and time
A time traveler, mysterious and sublime
A stranger to most, a paradox by design
The undefined pinnacle to which I climb,
A life of miscalculations and contaminated trust
Denied by the arrogance of the upper crust
An unsuspecting prisoner of a woman’s lust
Like any other mortal I shall one day turn to dust,
Died a thousand times but never went into battle
Yet, I hear the call of distant swords as they rattle
I refuse to be an audience to psychobabble
Our tyrannical government could put me in shackles,
Here I am in the midnight trying to dream
Haunted by all things that are not what they seem
Aware of all the soul sucking schemes
Contemplating the eventual silencing of man’s screams.
