Spying on Americans
The last month has seen the Obama administration beset by 3 major scandals and a host of minor ones.
30 hours or so ago Mr. Obama took the offensive and moved Ms. Rice to the position of National Security Advisor and nominated as a UN Ambassador another of his controversial friends Mrs. Power. By taking the battle to the Republicans he must have thought he would look 'Presidential' and not someone to screw around with.
This effort should have been enough to give him at least 3 days of good press in the national media. But as the old adage 'the best laid plans of mice and men etc' only got him a one day respite and then the 4th major scandal broke with the DOJ spying on citizens phone calls and emails. This is so serious that even the staunchly Democratic and leftist NY Times opined 'The President has lost all credibility' and Al Gore tweeted: 'In digital era, privacy must be a priority. Is it just me, or is secret surveillance obscenely outrageous?'
Any hope of Mr. Obama leaving office in 3 years with any sort of legacy is now gone. Yes he will have had 2 terms but those 8 years will have left his party a shattered hulk with his agenda unfilled and the party still smarting from those scandals we know about now plus what others that will surely arise in the coming months.
