Staggering Down The Avenue
Love will transform today in to tomorrow
Love will leave your heart feeling hollow
Love will make you beg, steal, and borrow
Love will be a hard act to follow,
Wearing your heart on your sleeve
Won’t get you a reprieve
Only insults over your lover’s pet peeves
Love is the illusion that you conceived,
Love might be the ultimate moment in your life
Somehow uplifts you from all of the strife
Then one day you find it cuts like a knife
That’s when you find you’ve got a new Ex-wife,
Sadness sets in with a pain you never knew
Was it all your fault did you just misconstrue
Just another lost soul staggering down the avenue
Why couldn’t you have been just one of the lucky few?
If only I could turn back the hands of time
Repair my heart like the words in this rhyme
Tears that torment me like sweat and grime
Seems my fate changed on the turn of a dime,
The mirage is more alluring than reality
Like the absence of water in the Salton Sea
She carried the water that I thought would save me
The Devil intervened and now I can’t be free,
Love seems like the ultimate pie in the sky
Then you find it’s just a white lie
She made you happy she made you cry
The facts are there you cannot deny,
I honestly thought I’d never love again
That changed when we stopped being friends
You always loved to condescend
It’s okay Dear maybe I’m getting near the end.
