Your Protection Is Your Responsibility

There has been a misunderstanding in this country that needs to be cleared up immediately.

The protection of yourself and your family is your responsibility. Did you hear me? It is YOUR responsibility. The duty of protection does not fall on the police, the government or your daddy; it is yours. It doesn’t matter how safe you think your community is or how quickly your police department responds, the ultimate obligation falls on you.

To fully understand this concept, let us look at the responsibility of law enforcement. Their primary job is to respond to calls. If their response time is so quick that they were able to prevent a crime from taking place, the potential victim would be extremely lucky. Sadly, this is often not the case. The average home invasion lasts about four minutes. The criminal’s intent is usually to steal valuables, commit an act of violence, or both. They have learned to be successful; they need to be in and out of the scene in four minutes. If the victim called 911 at the very moment the crime occurred, the chances of the police having the ability to prevent that crime is extremely low. So what do we have? A criminal in the house and a victim helplessly waiting and praying for police protection while hoping their family will survive the incident.

So what is the job of law enforcement? To make arrests or gather evidence after the crime has occurred. Hopefully by that time, everyone involved is safe and sound. The victim remembers the feeling of helplessness and the inability to prevent the situation. Worse yet, knowing that the well being of their loved ones was in the hands of a hardened criminal.

The truth is, this scenario takes place everyday in America. People are caught off guard by bad people who have a plan and experience and willing to take extreme risks to steal, rape or even kill. Not fun to think about, but this is the reality that thousands of people deal with all the time. The question is, what can you do about it? Are you prepared to handle this situation if it happens to you? If so, have you considered if the criminal was on drugs and armed with multiple people? The scenario can get worse and worse the more we explore the possibilities.

The founding fathers of our country understood this as they wrote the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” What does this mean to you? It means you have the right to protect yourself and your family with a gun. It means that you now have a tool to prevent a terrible crime against you. It also means that you have taken the obligation of personal protection of yourself and family on YOU.

So where should you start? There are many wonderful resources available to learn what type of firearm would best suit your needs. A good place to find firearm reviews and shooting instruction would be my YouTube channel titled, TheFireArmGuy and learn everything you need to know about the best gun for you. Then seek out professional training at a local range. Classes are constantly offered for people of all experience levels. Get the firearm and training necessary to become as proficient as possible. Be proactive, ask questions and develop a family plan for a worst case scenario. Continue to study and learn to the point that you feel confident that you could prevent a crime. At that point you are on your way to being prepared to assume your personal protection as your own responsibility.
